the theater reports so far ar reminiscent of the Hulk, in a way. Many theaters are sold out, some aren't very packed. But there are tons of screens available.

lol seriously the theater reports aren't that great, but you can't tell if that's just because of the overssaturation of theaters, plus the minimum hype for the preview. Lots of people probably don't know it's playing tonight, but I took the under anyways. I can't lose 3 in a row, can I? 2Fast2Furious doesn't count, I hedged it, lol. If I lose are you guys going to start a fade thread and post my plays there?

Well I just got back from T3 and I liked it. It was playing on 8 screens tonight in Montgomery and the theater had about 30 people in it. But it was a late showing in the sorriest theater here in town. I really enjoyed the ending which I didn't see happening. The movie had some nice humor and light spots which the Hulk could have learned from. I'm still sticking with my 80 million for the 6 day week (Tuesday through Sunday). I went in with low expectations of the movie but I was pleasntly surprised.

Has anybody else seen it and what did you think of it?

I havent checked it out yet... but here's another theater report
icon_eek.gif

"Silicon Valley
8pm 80% of 600 seats sold
830pm 60% of 600 seats sold
9pm 75% of 600 seats sold

As a comparison, EP2 sold out 19 auditoriums for midnight shows.

The previews didn't get much of a reaction.

The movie is a worthy addition to the T series. I thought it would be more crowded, but I don't think they publicized these early shows enough. The crowd really liked the movie, and it is a real action movie, grounded in enough reality to make you wince when something happened that looked painful, rather than making you go "cool" like Matrix or "fake" like Hulk. Everyone in my group liked it a lot, and all but one said it was the best movie of the summer (1 vote went to Matrix). Several of the guys decided to stay and get tickets to a later showing."

Sounds like it will have good word of mouth for this weekend maybe, but these reports are bad! Can't sell out a theater in the Bay Area for sneaks? That's horrendous.

I just dont think many people knew about it having sneaks on Wednesday night -- I didn't think about it until around 10:20, and caught a 10:45 showing that was about 2/5 of the way full...

As for the movie -- I came in with very low expectations and thought it was great. Much better than the Matrix 2 IMO... Good movie week with 28 Days later and T3.

sure, people didn't know, but if they really cared about this movie, they would have known and would have shown up tonight. It's not going to be a monster hit, we know that much, right?

Oren, it's a Tuesday night, dude. I really disagree with you. I DO think that this is going to be a monster hit. Keep in mind that these "sneak previews" were playing on a TON of different screens, all around town. If they had been more like REAL sneak previews, where they are only playing in a few theaters around town, you would have been reading theater reports on how they were ALL sold out. Did you finally end up betting the under 50 at Wsex? I think that's gonna lose for you, man.

Any other "monster hit" movie, and I'm talking about The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars calibur franchises, easily sold out their previews which were also on week nights.

And I don't believe this is going to be a very big hit. The positive word of mouth might help it along, but the initial buzz is lacking, I believe.

Well, you were wrong, as this movie made better than $4mil in previews last night. Matrix Reloaded made about $5mil. This is VERY good news for T3.

They never released teh official numbers from the Matrix previes did they? I know they said 5 million, but they were saying 10 million as well, I would guess it was somewhere inbetween, which would be double T3's take.

No sir. It was officially $5million, except they didn't count it as a preview, they just included it in the Thursday take, but, the number was $5mil. In fact, read all the msg boards and you will see that this number is all over the place. They are talking also about how Austin Powers made around $3mil.

The OVER 50 is going to be like taking candy from a baby. I still think, in fact, it will do more than 60 for the 3-day.

This has been discussed before, we all know that the movie studios lie when presenting their numbers. I think they wanted to downplay the fact that they were cheating in order to try and break the opening day record. Other movies have almost done 5 million with their previews, with far less screens than Reloaded had, and that thing was packing the house across the country from 8 pm until midnight. I firmly believe that 5 million is an incorrect number.

Ok, well, the point is, Austing Powers did $3mil and look where they ended up. Trust me, dude, this one goes WAY over the $50mil number posted. I can all but guarantee that. In addition, it's getting tremendous word of mouth in all the msg boards.

Go figure, the one time you play an UNDER and you lose. LOL. Just kidding dude. Don't get offended.

I don't know about the 50 million, it still has a lower buzz score than Reloaded, Bruce Almighty, the Hulk, X2, and Finding Nemo had.

YOu are checking the score on a Wednesday, whereas you are comparing all those other Friday scores. If you are interested in taking me up on the wager once again, I'm still game. Let's put both our money where our mouths are.

By the way, for this film to do less than $50mil, it would have to average around $14k per theater or less. That is a RIDICULOUSLY low number, and, it aint gonna happen, dude.

By the way, if you were to recheck that buzz score again on Friday, I would bet that it would be way up over 100.
